Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh. Featuring the timeless charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical "bear of very little brain" and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo-and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. "Ever have one of those days where you just can't win, Eeyore?" asks Pooh. Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some honey. Inspired by three stories from A.A. Milne's books in Disney's classic, hand-drawn art style. -- (C) Walt Disney

New Review For Movie Winnie the Pooh

It's a pleasure to sink into an animated family movie from Disney that radiates charm with a gentleness that seems damn near revolutionary.
Peter Travers-Rolling Stone

Disney doesn't offer much here that it hasn't done as well before.
Liam Lacey-Globe and Mail

"Winnie the Pooh" is a very full jar of honey indeed.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

This is indeed good old Pooh, nothing to fear. No space robots or serial killers have been added to the cast.
Tom Long-Detroit News

One would have to have a heart of cold temperament to find much -- if anything -- wrong with the animated adventure Winnie the Pooh.
Lisa Kennedy-Denver Post

Winnie the Pooh will make big people remember their childhoods. And small people will have fun getting to know all of us in the Hundred Acre Wood.
Linda Barnard-Toronto Star

It will entrance your kids and make them giggle and laugh and use their imaginations and want to create whole adventures.
Will Leitch-Deadspin

Winnie the Pooh is a charming addition to the Pooh collection of animated family films.
Amy Curtis-We Got This Covered

It's nice to see that Disney wants to introduce tykes to the magic of going to the movies with family fare this gentle and warm.
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service

The writers and directors make it work by never losing sight of the spirit of the characters, world, and Milne: imagination, innocence, and heaps of heart.
Michael Dequina-TheMovieReport.com

It's refreshing and invigorating to watch a new animated picture where we can still see the penciled-in sketches of the characters' eyebrows and wind-ruffled clothing.
Nathan Southern-TV Guide's Movie Guide

A back-to-basics charmer evoking the Pooh short films from the '60s and '70s. [Blu-ray]
Peter Canavese-Groucho Reviews

At 63 minutes, the film is not too long, not too short, but just right.
Robin Clifford-Reeling Reviews

As props and as emblems, as metaphors and things, the words are the basis of friendship, the means to understanding and communication and sharing.
Cynthia Fuchs-PopMatters

One of the film's new songs really sums it up: "Everything is honey and life is sweet."
Todd Hertz-Christianity Today

As childlike and as innocent as the audience it hopes to attract
James Luxford-The National

These fourth wall breaking techniques never feel like meta intrusions on the material but like a child's interaction with a parent reading the tales.
Mark Pfeiffer-Reel Times: Reflections on Cinema

This is a fantastic family movie-going experience.
Roger Tennis-Cinemaclips.com

Perfect for kids ten and under - the rest of us will just have to grin and bear it!
Jackie K. Cooper-jackiekcooper.com

A benign, tot-oriented fable sharing a heartwarming message about the true meaning of friendship.
Kam Williams-NewsBlaze

... sweet kiddie entertainment, with charming songs ...
Jim Lane-Sacramento News & Review

Winnie the Pooh generates smiles and chuckles from start to finish with its good-natured, episodic story of Pooh and friends going on a wild-goose chase to find a supposedly missing Christopher Robin...
Leonard Maltin-indieWIRE

Winnie the Pooh doesn't reinvent the wheel, just gives it an affectionate spin, and that is no more and no less than what one would hope from a family reunion.
Kimberley Jones-Austin Chronicle

Occasionally, some clever lines emerge, but the movie mostly fails to charm.
John Wirt-Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA)

A bright, cuddly blend of watercolor warmth and comfy, cozy nostalgia.
Mike Scott-Times-Picayune

Pre-school kids and sentimental grownups will be suitably enthralled.

New Review For Movie Bridesmaids

The movie won't change your life or grab a fistful of Oscar nominations come next winter. But it will make you laugh, hard and often, and it proves that sometimes girls just want to have fun.
Leah Rozen-The Wrap

An effortless blend of bad taste and good humour with a wholly believable, often very touching emotional core, all centred around one of the finest star-making comic performances in recent memory.
Tom Huddleston-Time Out

The movie is uneven and lurching, but it provides many laughs.
David Denby-New Yorker

Bridesmaids is a stiletto-sharp, raunchy, no-holds-barred yuk-fest that stands as a worthy female counterpart to the likes of Wedding Crashers and The Hangover.
Tom Charity-CNN.com

Wiig has terrific audience rapport, a prerequisite for comics, and a squiggly way of seeming totally reasonable and altogether daft at the same time.
Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor

The only question is: Will Kristen Wiig ever be this good again? The answer is, let's hope so. Bridesmaids rocks. Hopefully, a movie star is born.
Tom Long-Detroit News

A terrific comedy, zany, ribald and fearless in just about every way you'd want a comedy to be.
Will Leitch-Deadspin

Bridesmaids is a reminder that fresh content is still alive and well, especially when it's delivered by a group of talented actresses.
Benjo Colautti-We Got This Covered

This is "Her Hangover," a smarter and sweeter stumble to the altar that never quite gets to Vegas, and doesn't seem to mind.
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service

There's a full spectrum of emotions on show: how many comedies with a gag involving projectile vomit and diarrhoea can say that?
Ali Gray-TheShiznit.co.uk

El humor de Damas en guerra se parece por momentos al de la comedia masculina más guarra, escatología incluida, aunque también hay lugar para los sentimientos y hasta el romanticismo.
Enrique Buchichio-Uruguay Total

It shows the dark side of people to a surprising extent for a comedy. It isn't exactly a black comedy or a dark comedy, but it does explore the way that friends can sometimes become jealous and sabotage each other.
Robert Roten-Laramie Movie Scope

Kristen Wiig, between her screenplay and fearlessly funny performance, gives nothing less than a tour de force.
Michael Dequina-TheMovieReport.com

Bridesmaids is a very funny movie, with interesting characters and great performances, but the film's pacing issues make it more of a chore to get through than expected.
R. L. Shaffer-IGN DVD

I like that Bridesmaids aspires to be more than just a dumb comedy, but that doesn't mean it needs to belabor its point for what feels like eons.
Gabe Leibowitz-Film and Felt

Paul Feig's Bridesmaids ends up living in the memory like most weddings do; you went, you had a pleasant time, and unless somebody mentions the happy couple, you never think about the experience again.
Perry Seibert-TV Guide's Movie Guide

I laughed almost without pause; at several points I made horselike snorting sounds that hurt the insides of my nose.
Michael W. Phillips, Jr.-Goatdog's Movies

Whether it says something incisive about female friends and their inability to truly feel comfortable and rise above petty jealousies and competition, Bridesmaids never achieves the wolf pack camaraderie that The Hangover executes so naturally.
Jordan Hiller-Bangitout.com

There are things to like here and the idea is a noble one. But in execution, "Bridesmaids" is a typical chick flick just with some extra rude words and vomit.
Laurence Boyce-The Baltic Times

At 125 minutes, 'Bridesmaids' is long for a comedy, but it earns its running time by fully developing its characters and their relationships ...
Greg Maki-Star-Democrat (Easton, MD)

... a girl-bonding romp filled equally with outlandish bridal showers and alcohol-fueled slapstick aggression, grand romantic gestures and furtive sex, high couture and low blows.
Sean Axmaker-MSN.com

A bridal-shower blast of brassy hilarity and a cast of ferociously funny females.
Neil Pond-American Profile

The girls show the boys how it's done in Bridesmaids, an achingly funny mesh of gross out gags and heartfelt sentiment led by the new queen of comedy, Kristen Wiig.
Matthew Pejkovic-Matt's Movie Reviews

Bridesmaids turns the gross-out comedy genre on its head and emerges bigger and better than its predecessors. It boasts unforgettable breakout performances and is the most important comedy of the year. And the best.
Ed Gibbs-Sydney Morning Herald

Wiig's brand of comedy is loud, proud and just gosh darned funny.

New Review For Movie Of Gods and Men

Alternately harrowing and humbling, this is a story of ordinary men whose compassion is tested in the cruelest, most profound fashion.
J. R. Jones-Chicago Reader

Beauvois takes his time limning the daily rhythms of the monastery, lingering on its most lyrical and sensuous moments, so that when violence finally reaches its gates the effect is all the more chilling.
Ann Hornaday-Washington Post

The film, directed by Xavier Beauvois, moves back and forth between the monks doing their daily chores and the decisions they must face as a group.
Tom Long-Detroit News

Forgive me, Father, for I was bored.
Joe Williams-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Beauvois' camera is watchful and unobtrusive, panning the monastery and its spartan rooms, documenting the brothers' quotidian tasks, but also the modest ritual, the beauty, the illumination.
Steven Rea-Philadelphia Inquirer

The air that "Of Gods and Men'' breathes is so clean and so cold that it feels like a fresh beginning.
Ty Burr-Boston Globe

Quietly compelling, if not as emotional as you might have hoped
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service

Beauvois shows respect for all of the characters and cultures involved -- the monks, the community they served, even the enemies that the monks remembered in their prayers.
Jeffrey Overstreet-Comment

Una película dura, hermosa y conmovedora sobre un episodio trágico que fue, ante todo, un acto de sacrificio y resistencia ante la violencia y el miedo. Desde ya, una de las fundamentales del año.
Enrique Buchichio-Uruguay Total

Of Gods and Men has a slow, introspective quality that gives the viewer plenty of time to mull over the monks' quandary, but it also has a feeling of constant dread.
Eric Melin-Scene-Stealers.com

In a world in which faith and ignorance are often yoked together, Of Gods and Men lifts faith from just the throbbing heart to the thinking mind as well.
Tony Macklin-tonymacklin.net

A deeply moving and profoundly beautiful film about a group of monks working in the mountains of Algeria who are faced with the most difficult personal and collective decisions when the country erupts in brutal civil-war
Simon Weaving-Screenwize

Jeffrey Chen-ReelTalk Movie Reviews

Robert Denerstein-Movie Habit

Argot Pictures is proud to present the US theatrical release of 'The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls' a documentary by Leanne Pooley. Winner of numerous awards, including Best Feature Documentary at New York's NewFest 2010 and the Cadillac People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival 2009 'The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls' tells the story of the world's only comedic, singing, yodeling lesbian twin sisters, Lynda and Jools Topp, whose political activism and unique brand of entertainment has helped change New Zealand's social landscape. In the process they have become well-loved cultural icons. The film will open in New York at Cinema Village on May 13. Other cities will follow. This is the first time that the irrepressible Kiwi entertainment double act, Jools and Lynda Topp's extraordinary personal story has been told. As well as rarely seen archive footage and home movies, the film features a series of special interviews with some of the Topp's infamous comedy alter-egos including candid chats with the two Kens, Camp Mother and Camp Leader, the Bowling Ladies and the Posh Socialite sisters, Prue and Dilly. The Topp Twins have attained a unique status within New Zealand culture, and their fans range from hard core political activists, to sheep farmers and 'Ladies who Lunch'. Their ability to relate to all kinds of people, and their natural gift for humour, has helped them cross from the fringes to the mainstream. It has often been said that if the story of the Twins was fictional nobody would believe it. From rural backwaters to busking on the streets of Auckland, to performances at the Rugby World Cup and London's West End stage, their appeal is infectious. From support act to Split Enz, Billy Bragg, and Midnight Oil to headlining their own hugely successful tours in Australia, Canada, the USA and Britain. The twins have morphed from radical activists into Kiwi 'national treasures', 'cultural ambassadors', and finally, according to the Glasgow Herald, into New Zealand's 'finest artistic export since lamb cutlets!' 'The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls' follows the girls from their happy childhood on a Waikato dairy farm - where they grew up singing to the cows - to the Territorial Army where they quickly became the Vera Lynns of their battalion. They came of age performing on the streets of Auckland during the heady days of the political protest marches in the early 80s, and quickly joined the forefront of progressive social change campaigning for a Nuclear-Free NZ, Maori Land Rights, a halt to the1981 Springbok Tour, and Homosexual Law Reform. By 1998 only a decade later, Lynda Topp, as Camp Mother, came close to winning the mayoral elections in Auckland, and the Topp Twins were firmly entrenched in the bosom of Kiwi culture with their own prime time TV Series 'Do Not Adjust Your Twinset'. 'The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls' is not just the story of two sisters but also of 50 years of New Zealand history. Half a century of cultural changes and the foundation of a national identity. Part concert film, part biopic, part historical record, part comedy, the Twins share their journey from "coming out‟ to Jools' recent brush with Breast Cancer with much laughter, honesty and wisdom. It is a film about two truly unique New Zealanders, which ends up saying as much about us as it does about them. 'The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls' is directed by award-winning ex BBC documentary filmmaker, Leanne Pooley. Director of Photography role was shared by Leon Narbey ('Whale Rider'); one of New Zealand's most acclaimed cinematographers, and Wayne Vinten, (Best Cinematography NZ Screen Awards 2008). The film was produced by Arani Cuthbert of Diva Productions, who has also managed the twins for much of their career and produced their popular TV series. -- (C) Argot

New Review For Movie The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls

With a cheeky attitude and a live-and-let-live message, the Topps are irresistible ambassadors for New Zealand, where a daft sense of humor appears to be a key natural resource.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

A fond, uncomplicated love letter to two irrepressible good-time Charlottes.
Ty Burr-Boston Globe

Sometimes corny, often funny and just as often touching, their act has been wowing Kiwis for decades.
David Wiegand-San Francisco Chronicle

One secret to the Topps' widespread acceptance is in plain sight: their remarkably old-fashioned act.
Mark Jenkins-NPR

They've been performing for 30 years and it's safe to say that if they had any appeal here, you would have heard of them by now.
Kyle Smith-New York Post

Merging old-fashioned comedy routines with up-to-the-minute politics - all of it enabled by fun-loving personalities and a gift for rousing original songs - the ladies emit a genuine warmth that reels audiences in.
Jeannette Catsoulis-New York Times

These butch lesbian sibling farmers, who have a comedy singing act (acoustic country songs), are shown fighting for gay rights and surviving cancer over the decades, and they are endearing in their suits and fake moustaches.
Brandon Judell-indieWIRE

Pooley could have been more probing in her interviews with the twins and their supporters. But the fact of the duo's success is so astounding you're gripped all the same.
Charlotte O'Sullivan-This is London

The more you learn about the twins the more of a fan you are likely to become and The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls is the very essence of a crowd-pleaser.
Allan Hunter-Daily Express

Jools and Linda left my giggle chain unyanked and their backstory, for all its nuance and aspects of tragedy, failed to stir my soul.
Catherine Shoard-Guardian [UK]

Warm and charming, if hardly essential.
Joe Walsh-Little White Lies

I cannot imagine anyone who would not like the Topp twins.
Chris Hewitt (St. Paul)-St. Paul Pioneer Press

Pooley's approach is a bit paint-by-numbers, but her film is upbeat without being calculatedly feel-good.
Betsy Sherman-Boston Phoenix

The talent, the humor and the dedication of these amazing sisters is a gift to the world.
Robin Clifford-Reeling Reviews

Take the Indigo Girls and spice them up with some k.d. lang, Dame Edna, Minnie Pearl, the AbFabers, Monty Python and Rodney Dangerfield then apply kiwi accents and you might begin to get an idea of what the Topp Twins are like.
Laura Clifford-Reeling Reviews

A film that is shot straightforwardly -- to the point of being visually unimaginative -- but that benefits enormously from the overflowing charisma of its subjects.
Mike Scott-Times-Picayune

Although claims of their having "an extraordinary effect on people, from all walks of life" may be exaggerated, the world needs to hear these two.
Ron Wilkinson-Monsters and Critics

I dare you to leave without the title song firmly stuck in your head.
Leslie Stonebraker-New York Press

Given most people's unfamiliarity with New Zealand idiosyncrasies and politics, much gets lost in translation here.
Diego Costa-Slant Magazine

Terrifically entertaining documentary about New Zealand's lesbian Topp Twins and their extraordinary career is a heart-warming eye-opener that provides insights into so much more than the sexual orientation of its two remarkable subjects.
Doris Toumarkine-Film Journal International

The Topp Twins' vibrantly innovative music and indefatigable personalities have a universal charm.

New Review For Movie Bobby Fischer Against The World

A once-in-a-lifetime character makes for a fascinating documentary subject in producer-director Liz Garbus' "Bobby Fischer Against the World."
Gary Goldstein-Los Angeles Times

Liz Garbus's documentary about the great American chess champion Bobby Fischer does its level best to avoid the easy cliché equating madness and genius, except that, in the case of Fischer, the cliché apparently holds up.
Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor

Tactfully but strongly posits a connection between the genius he brought to an infinitely complex game and the madness that defined his relationship to just about everything else.
A.O. Scott-New York Times

Supplies a cracked, conflicted genius trapped in his ceaseless endgame.
Joshua Rothkopf-Time Out New York

Garbus handles this decline with tact. The sorry spectacle of the ranting codger never effaces the image of the boy concentrating his entire being over a chessboard. You have to love that kid and pity him.
J. Hoberman-Village Voice

Overall, the film lacks that precise hook of exactly why it's worth telling this story now, but it remains a fascinating story nonetheless.
Tom Huddleston-Time Out

An affective portrait of an intense, obsessed man and a tense, twisty, and occasionally inspiring narrative surrounding the Fischer-Spassky match.
Christopher Long-Movie Metropolis

Absorbing documentary biopic on the former world chess champion Bobby Fischer.
Dennis Schwartz-Ozus' World Movie Reviews

Tackles the iconoclastic nature of its subject both personally and professionally, making a persuasive, emotionally involving case for the dark, troubled flipside of genius.
Brent Simon-Shockya.com

A gripping film about a subject almost too good to be true.
Shawn Levy-Oregonian

at once the director's most accomplished and entrancing film to date
Chris Cabin-Filmcritic.com

This is strong and effective documentary filmmaking, but it's only a lengthy prologue to the story on which Liz Garbus clearly wants to focus.
Arthur Ryel-Lindsey-Slant Magazine

Garbus tells his story with aplomb, placing it in the greater context of the Cold War, and also examining the human toll and anguish Fischer brought upon himself.
Simon Miraudo-Quickflix

What sets this film aside from being a conventional biographical account of Fischer's life and career, is when it examines the nature of genius and why Fischer was so unpredictable, erratic and eventually intensely paranoid.
Thomas Caldwell-Cinema Autopsy

This is an utterly compelling insight into modern history, psychology, international politics and boardgame warfare.
Graham Young-Birmingham Mail

Garbus's portrait of Fischer as a lonely child and a monomaniacal young chess player becomes a portrait of his times as well...
MaryAnn Johanson-Flick Filosopher

The film may stick to the standard rise-and-fall story arc, but it does pull together a lot of fascinating archival material.
Alistair Harkness-Scotsman

[A] fascinating but rather low-key documentary...
Philip French-Observer [UK]

It's a sad story of genius paying for the gift.
Anthony Quinn-Independent

It's a life so incredible and so tragic that even those with no knowledge of chess will be enthralled.
David Edwards-Daily Mirror [UK]

A fascinating, darkly humorous but ultimately disturbing portrait of troubled genius.
Henry Fitzherbert-Daily Express

New Review For Movie The Descendants

The Descendants is humane, decent, and close to real quality.
David Thomson-The New Republic

Payne is an unobtrusive director, a filmmaker who lets the script do the walking - in this case, perhaps too much.
Dave Calhoun-Time Out

One of the year's best films, a bubbly meditation on family and responsibility that weighs just enough to matter.
Tom Long-Detroit News

In the hands of writer-director Alexander Payne, Clooney has rarely seemed so much at home.
Rene Rodriguez-Miami Herald

In playing an everyman stranded between anger and duty, Clooney earns an emotional payoff that a lesser actor would simply demand.
Joe Williams-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

With so many balls in the air the temptation is to rush from one plot strand to another, but Payne takes the opposite approach. He also captures the complexity of emotional reactions that grief stirs.
Bill Goodykoontz-Arizona Republic

A truthful, warm-hearted, deeply moving film about loss, about death, about legacies and, yeah, family.
Will Leitch-Deadspin

People looking for a good lei would be wise to say aloha to 'The Descendants,' Alexander Payne's Hawaiian-set luau in which laughter and tears combine for a cinematic feast.

A beautifully touching, tragic and amusing follow-up film from the director of Sideways.
Tom Glasson-Concrete Playground

The Descendants manages to even surpass those stratospheric expectations most fans will have walking into the theatre.
Kristal Cooper-We Got This Covered

Like "Sideways" and "About Schmidt," "The Descendants" lets Alexander Payne show us the Other America and the Other Americans - little lives caught up in small but epic problems far away from the La La Land of Hollywood hype, sex and violence.
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service

Each year there are usually one or two films that don't deserve all of the insane praise they get (last year's The Fighter is a prime example) and it looks like "The Descendants" is one for this year.
Jeff Beck-Examiner.com

Understandable when dealing with Payne's typically directionless protagonists, The Descendants occasionally feels like it is unsure of where it's going, yet it still always ambles along at a pleasant pace regardless.
Matt Looker-TheShiznit.co.uk

A thoroughly rewarding assembled-for-adults dramedy that benefits immensely from both its island locale and one of George Clooney's finest performances.
Erick Weber-NECN

The Descendants is a devastating and rewarding emotional journey.
Blake Howard-2UE That Movie Show

Will keep you soaked in its melancholy until the very end...
Felix Vasquez Jr.-Cinema Crazed

Sort of like a shotgun marriage between Jimmy Buffett and Harry Chapin.
Rob Gonsalves-eFilmCritic.com

There's some pretty tricky material for Payne and crew to navigate, but anchored by a terrific cast it's a journey of hurt and healing that lingers.
Bruce Bennett-Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

overrated, but not a bad movie
Kevin Carr-7M Pictures

"The Descendants" goes on too long, but that's its only flaw. And frankly, I can see why Payne and his editor decided to go with this print instead of making some awfully tough decisions.
James Plath-Movie Metropolis

George Clooney gives a wonderful lead performance in his new film The Descendants but Clooney has always been more than just a handsome face, he's a proper movie star and in that old Hollywood tradition, he's also an everyman, one of us.
Brian Henry Martin-UTV

No doubt the awards hype around the film will get people into cinemas but it doesn't warrant the attention considering Payne's previous work and Clooney has put in much better performances.
Cameron Williams-The Popcorn Junkie

Payne manages to give the film a lightness that makes it uplifting or at the least fulfilling, rather than depressing.

New Review For Movie Attack the Block

Here is a shaggy monster movie that pulls double-duty as a satire of class and ethnic barriers, and how those barriers quickly disappear when we are forced to fight for our simple survival.
Rene Rodriguez-Miami Herald

Attack the Block attacks the alien invasion genre with wit, energy and a cheeky insolence that makes it out of this world.
Tom Long-Detroit News

An energetic genre ride with social ambitions about race and class.
Lisa Kennedy-Denver Post

"Attack the Block" demands to be seen simply because it is a thrill - a pulse-raiser whose perfect construction and pointed wit make it one of the year's most exciting films.
John DeFore-Washington Post

The movie's amateurishly made. But the script is full of little surprises.
Wesley Morris-Boston Globe

It's exciting, and there is plenty of gore for fans of that sort of thing, but one wishes the mix of horror and comedy leaned a little more to the horror side of the equation.
Randy Cordova-Arizona Republic

Skilled, heartfelt entertainment done well.
Will Leitch-Deadspin

A creatively unconventional invasion movie let down by its utterly unlikeable heroes.
Tom Glasson-Concrete Playground

Attack The Block balances scares with laughs incredibly well and features solid performances from everyone in the cast. Gruesome aliens and a great setting that features outstanding action scenes all make for a very fun ride.
Will Chadwick-We Got This Covered

There are some parts of London that maybe aliens shouldn't be too eager to invade.
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service

While all signs point to 'culty' for this film, it actually has all the mainstream appeal of a brilliant comedy and a terrifying supernatural horror.
Matt Looker-TheShiznit.co.uk

An adrenaline thrill ride cult action film that gets over as an unlikely sci-fi film.
Dennis Schwartz-Ozus' World Movie Reviews

Fish Tank meets Skyline in this hilarious and arresting British sci-fi comedy.
James Croot-Flicks.co.nz

A solidly executed example of the genres and conventions it intelligently satirizes.
Michael Dequina-TheMovieReport.com

There's a lot more going on than meets the eye in this slick, exciting, UK monster movie.
R. L. Shaffer-IGN DVD

One of the year's smartest and most giddily enjoyable films.
Tom Clift-Moviedex

Fighting aliens with these diverse, street-smart, slang-slinging little criminals is all the more fun for fighting them in the Block: a fantastic funhouse of a battlefield, providing plenty of room for extremely witty and well-shot action sequences.
CJ Johnson-ABC Radio (Australia)

When the going gets tough. Attack the Block hangs as tough as any modern thriller should.
Leigh Paatsch-Herald Sun (Australia)

Writer/director Joe Cornish has young wannabe gangstas battling aliens in a hilarious, action-packed combination of monster movie and underclass teenage story. Trust!
Dom Phillips-MovieFIX

This pitch perfect blend of sci-fi action, comedy and social commentary winds up a gleeful delight.
Joshua Blackman-FILMINK (Australia)

Cornish and his effects team work magic with the creature designs. I won't spoil their look here as their eventual reveal provides quite a payoff, but it's an ingenious, scary, and memorable movie monster they've created.
Simon Miraudo-Quickflix

The story unfolds visually for the most part, and the body language is enough to keep us informed. It just doesn't quite meet expectations for a movie that has an interesting premise
Andrew L. Urban-Urban Cinefile

Attack the Block is a fast-paced and inventive action/science-fiction film with an unconventional set of heroes.
Thomas Caldwell-Cinema Autopsy

Deserves the praise it's received.
Clay Cane-BET.com

This wonderfully talented filmmaker will get to the serious stuff later in what is sure to be his long career. Right now, he seems far more interested in crafting a good-time scare, which he achieves superbly.
Simon Foster-sbs.com.au

It successfully combines action with wit, social commentary and comedy.

In this warmhearted portrait of the French harbor city that gives the film its name, fate throws young African refugee Idrissa (Blondin Miguel) into the path of Marcel Marx (André Wilms), a well-spoken bohemian who works as a shoeshiner. With innate optimism and the unwavering support of his community, Marcel stands up to officials doggedly pursuing the boy for deportation. A political fairy tale that exists somewhere between the reality of contemporary France and the classic cinema of Jean-Pierre Melville and Marcel Carné, Le Havre is a charming, deadpan delight. -- (C) Official Site

Le

New Review For Movie Le Havre

We are so held by the film's impact that its ending, surprise or not, is like a bonus.
Stanley Kauffmann-The New Republic

Endearingly quirky, just this side of precious, but so warm and deftly executed that you go along with it.
Jon Frosch-The Atlantic

"Le Havre" is a passing fancy of a film, but it passes quite nicely indeed.
Tom Long-Detroit News

'Tis the season, so the saying goes. And when it comes to Aki Kaurismäki, it holds true. The Finnish writer-director arrives bearing a gift wrapped in a contemporary immigration fable.
Lisa Kennedy-Denver Post

If the bummers and ambiguity of some of this season's movies are getting you down - or, hey, just the bummers and ambiguities of life - make your way to Le Havre. You won't be sorry.
Steven Rea-Philadelphia Inquirer

The Finnish director's sense of humor is dry and dark as pitch, as he consistently finds moments of absurdity in the midst of strife and tragedy.
Mick LaSalle-San Francisco Chronicle

Kaurismäki returns with another of his deadpan comedies, reminiscent of the great silent comedians, though this one is arguably one of his gentlest as well.
Jeffrey M. Anderson-Combustible Celluloid

Le Havre is presented as an oasis of happy inclusiveness within a regimented, uniformed, legislated and suspicious world at large; to spend time here is a pleasure.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

Kaurismäki turns his affectionate, whimsical eye on the impoverished but generous folk of a run-down, waterfront community in the Normandy port of Le Havre.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

The result is both charming and purposeful.
Derek Malcolm-This is London

Written and directed by Finland's Aki Kaurismäki, this warmly engaging film is an understated pleasure about a surprisingly resourceful underdog.
Alex Zane-Sun Online

The intricately woven tale of hide and seek is full of priceless, poker-faced comedy and heartrending tenderness.
Allan Hunter-Daily Express

No other director could maintain this degree of optimism while telling such a superficially grim story.
Donald Clarke-Irish Times

It's a satisfying and distinctively lovable film.
Peter Bradshaw-Guardian [UK]

A charming feel-good fantasy of 'Marxist' solidarity resurgent against the chill of post-9/11 modernity.
Anton Bitel-Film4

Kaurismäki clearly knows this is a fantasy, and it's a perfectly pleasant one at that.
Robbie Collin-Daily Telegraph

A gorgeous hymn to the struggles of the working man.
David Jenkins-Little White Lies

I was on cloud nine throughout the film: that place of Technicolored rapture where Kaurismäki fans dwell, and where past, present and oneiric future are rolled celestially into one.
Nigel Andrews-Financial Times

Such a heart-warming tale in any other hands could so easily become schmaltzy (a Spielberg remake would be awful), but the deadpan delivery and endless idiosyncrasies counterbalance this tendency.
Paul Huckerby-Electric Sheep

Kaurismäki fashions a droll, engaging fairytale, with echoes of Casablanca in its colourful, close-knit Normandaise resistance...
-Scotsman

This is no doubt a message movie, but it delivers its message in an unforced, quirky way that leaves you feeling as though you've been pleasurably cajoled rather than harangued.
Frank Swietek-One Guy's Opinion

A warm-hearted salute to both classical French cinema and working-class solidarity.
Tom Dawson-Total Film

Le Havre could be described as the ever-quirky Aki Kaurismaki's 'wish list' film addressing today's tide of refugees who are usually faceless crowds or worse, corpses at the unintended end of their journey
Andrew L. Urban-Urban Cinefile

There's something extremely pure about this simple yet beautiful film in which ordinary people do extraordinary things
Louise Keller-Urban Cinefile

It is rare and welcome to watch a movie that automatically assumes people will do the right thing at the slightest provocation.
Rob Thomas-Capital Times (Madison, WI)
